The SD Gecko is a passive adapter that plugs into the memory card slots (the EXI bus), and exposes an SD Card over it. It uses the fact that the EXI bus is electrically compatible with SPI, and that (most) SD Cards natively support SPI. Due to this inherent compatibility, SD Geckos are incredibly cheap and simple to make.
Compatibility
[edit | edit source]SD Geckos are compatible with Wii-Linux up to and including 4.5. They somewhat broke in the migration to 4.19, but improved support with notably faster speeds was added in 7.1.2. SD Geckos do not appear to be compatible with NetBSD.
