The Wii U has an eMMC module attached to its 3rd SDHCI (SDHCI2). It officially contains a WFS filesystem, but it can be reformatted to contain anything (e.g. an ext4 root filesystem for linux-wiiu) with almost no danger, as the eMMC isn't touched for any boot-process purposes, containing only user data.
