The Wii Family Edition is a variant of the Wii, released by Nintendo in 2011.
Differences
[edit | edit source]The Wii Family Edition has a few differences from a standard Wii.
- Features that were removed:
- GameCube Controller and Memory Card ports
- Features that were changed:
- Button labels and logo on the front are printed in an horizontal layout rather than the usual vertical layout
- The console and bundled Wii Remote were released in different colors including the usual white
Limitations
[edit | edit source]- Limitations imposed by hardware:
- No ability to read GameCube discs (no support in the optical drive)
Linux support
[edit | edit source]Wii-Linux can be run on a Family Edition console with any method possible on the regular model.
