The Wii Family Edition is a variant of the Wii, released by Nintendo in 2011.

Differences

The Wii Family Edition has a few differences from a standard Wii.

  • Features that were removed:
  • Features that were changed:
    • Button labels and logo on the front are printed in an horizontal layout rather than the usual vertical layout
    • The console and bundled Wii Remote were released in different colors including the usual white

Limitations

  • Limitations imposed by hardware:
    • No ability to read GameCube discs (no support in the optical drive)

Linux support

Wii-Linux can be run on a Family Edition console with any method possible on the regular model.
