BootMii is a piece of software developed by fail0verflow, intended as a boot2 replacement.

It is often used by Wii-Linux users, as MINI is the only firmware that Linux will run under, and BootMii is the primary (but not only) way to load it.

Boot sequence

The boot sequence for BootMii is as follows:

  • Initialize the hardware
  • Attempt to load MINI from bootmii/armboot.bin from a FAT partition on an SD Card
    • If this step fails (no SD Card connected, no FAT, file doesn't exist, read failure, etc), it will load Nintendo's boot2 and proceed to let the system boot normally
